WHAT IS HEMATOLOGY?
Traditionally MLTs that work in hematology examine blood to look for abnormalities. Think of every time you have given blood to run for a CBC (complete blood count), MLTs sometimes have to run a manual count, where they look at and count your cells under a microscope.
BUT in our lab we examine large pools of candies to observe for abnormalities, we examine red skittles, nerds clusters and sprinkles!!!!
Under a microscope our candies should be well spaced, not overlapping, and clearly visible so we can't count each one accurately!!!
First you are going to count the red skittles!

Okay now you're going to count the nerds clusters!
( keep note that there's different kinds and shapes)

Finally you need to count all the sprinkles!!!

Congratulations!!! You just did a manual candy count!!!
Now while that might've seemed easy, there are typically abnormalities that may appear in our candies that we don't like too see! It can make our tummy upset :(
Here are some examples...
Here the skittles are sticking together, this isn't good, as it makes them harder to count!

Wow! Did you notice how many nerds clusters there are?! This is not very good either, because we do not want too many nerds clusters!

This is another weird thing our candy does sometimes. Our sprinkles begin to stick together, instead of being dispersed through all the other candies.

These abnormalities can happen to our candy anytime, so we have to know what we are looking for so we can fix our lab candy mix!
